Cayman Brac

In Cayman by Paul Reginaldi

The Russian war ship, M V Captain Keith Tibbett’s, is the most popular underwater ship wreck. Sunk in 1996, it sits at 50 to 80 ft depth and is one of four wreck dives. If you love the diving off Grand Cayman but hate the commercialism and crowds, I have the perfect solution. It’s a 12 mile long, one mile wide island called Cayman Brac. I just returned from my first Cayman Brac trip and was tremendously impressed. The diving is unparalleled especially along the north side of the island. The wall dive features colorful sponge life, pristine coals, and bountiful marine life including: angelfish, butterfly fish, green turtles, rays, eels, barracuda, spotted drums fish, puffer fish, and an occasional shark. Diving can be done from the shore or from boat, but it is all spectacular. I would have to rate this dive destinations as one of my favorites. The wall dive features colorful sponge life, pristine coals, and bountiful marine life including: angelfish, butterfly fish, green turtles, rays, eels, barracuda, spotted drums fish, puffer fish, and an occasional shark. The accommodations at Cayman Brac Beach Resort were very nice and geared to the diving community. The dive operation at Brac Beach Resort is Brac Reef Beach Resort Dive Center. Most people referred to the dive operation as Reef Divers. I dive boats are designed for diving and the boat crew was knowledgeable and professional.
