I recently traveled to Belize where I made several dives at the Turneffe Atoll. It advertises itself as the largest and most biologically diverse coral Atoll in the Caribbean, and it did not disappoint. I was surprised to learn that there are excessive amounts of lion fish. Even though they were beautiful (not the patriotic colors on the one I shot), they are very dangerous. There are more than 60 dive sites on the Atoll. The wildlife was varied including nurse sharks and the occasional Manatee. Hugh conch shells littered the ocean floor. Be sure and look at the one I caught with its “critter” emerging. I also really enjoyed diving the Blue Hole – a sure drop into a seemingly a bottomless pit. Check out the beautiful stalactites that I saw at 132 feet. Though the water was a bit cloudy due to recent storms, I was able to get pictures of some unusual coral and sponge formations. Flamingo Tongue always present a beautiful photograph.
