Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands which are located in the western Caribbean about 40 miles off the northern coast of Honduras. A 33 mile long, 3 mile wide strip of land, Roatan is the most populated of the islands with approximately 30,000 residents. The main reason my wife, Cindy, and I visited the quaint spot, though, was to see and photograph the population beneath the clear, blue waters. Highlights of the trip included a dive with trained dolphins out of Anthony’s Key Resort. We stayed at the Coco View Resort which boasts of the famous Coco View Wall and the wreck of the Prince Albert both right off the beach and accessible 24/7. We loved diving these sites at night as we photographed an octopus, seahorse, puffer and scorpion fish, and big red eyed shrimp. The boat dives go to nearby walls and ledges of the protected south shore. All are within minutes of the dock.
